Tropical Storm Bonnie  Tropical Storm Bonnie Heads To Oil Spill SiteTropical Storm Bonnie battered the central Bahamas on Thursday night and headed to the site of the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. According to the US National Hurricane Center in Miami, after affecting Turks and Caicos Islands and the Bahamas with lightning and heavy rains, the typhoon could reach the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday.

Reports from the center said that the storm inflicted a maximum winds of 40 mph on Thursday and was centered about 1 65 miles SE of the Nassau. It caused flooding in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Bahamian National Emergency Management Agency director Capt. Stephen Russel said that there were no serious damages and injuries were reported on islands in the south eastern and central Bahamas. He also added that they gave the people updates and advices to be vigilant even if the storm exits.

On the other hand, the largest oil spill in the history of the US, with about 94 and 184 million gallons spilled into the Gulf before a cap could be attached. This is what scared the officials, for the storm may blow the oil spill with strong winds to the beaches. Despite the storm which affected the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos, some businesses were remained operating. No threats were given to tourists islands though. The officials of Florida aleady made precautionary steps and prepared evacuation ceners for the possible struggle under the storm which according to the US forecast could slowly strengthen in the next 48 hours.
