The results of Iraq Elections Postponed!
In a short notice the Iraq Election Commission has postponed announcing the initial results of the election that took place last week with the reason that they have not yet finished the counting of the votes. Now can this be a reason behind the postponement of the results or there is some other threat behind this is not yet known.
Spokesman of Iraq’s High Electoral Commission announced on Tuesday afternoon that they would not make the announcement on due time and would make it once they finish tabulating 30 percent of votes. The election officials however were quick to mention that they expect to reach the threshold of announcing the results by Wednesday or Thursday. The Iraqi officials had previously planned to publish the preliminary results on Tuesday for some provinces including Baghdad because these constituencies command nearly 325 seats which is about one-fifth of the parliament.
The UN Security Council praised the elections that were conducted amidst some violent and disturbance activities by the insurgents, but this had been hailed as a mark to strengthen the independence and national unity of the scattered and shattered country. The 15 member body of UN Council said that the Iraqi people have really shown commitment towards a democratic political process with peaceful attitude.
Nearly 6,000 candidates from different parties competed in the election and therefore it is expected that no one faction is going to win with outright majority in the elections, hence building the new government would be another herculean task and it would take months.
