wildfire 150x150 Quebec Fires Smoke Streaming into New England Area Around 50 wildfires are burning in the Quebec area of Canada and the wind is helping them spread to New England.

The forest fire protection agency of Quebec, SOPFEU, said in the morning that the number of wildfires in the Quebec area was 52, some of this fires are still totally out of control.

The majority of the fires is concentrated in the St. Lawrence Valley zone, which is a heavily populated zone, however the central Quebec area is not safe eighter.

Because of the heavy winds new wildfires are beginning and the smoke from the existing ones is steered into New England and St. Lawrence Valley.

Portland polices said that they started to receive smoke alarm calls from midday. It is hoped for Monday afternoon that the wind will shift, steering the smoke away from New England and St. Lawrence Valley.

Quebec authorities are hoping that on Tuesday morning a heavy spread rain will begin over the Quebec area, this could help the firefighters efforts, how ever it very well could spark new fires with lightnings. It also may happen that the much needed rain will keep away from Quebec, Canada.

IF it were up to me-I’d come and help!!We don’t care if it’s smokey here, you’d think our government WOULD come and help-seems as though things have gotten screwy here lately and completely agree that our country should be up there fighting these forest fires along side your guys. Many apologies-can’t quite understand the reasons but yes, it’s wrong!!!

By the way, I’m a New England-er and can state that all people here are more concerned for everyone’s safety up there and not concerned over what’s in the air…..Sorry to have all this go on!

Larrry: Quebec is not not by any stretch of the imagination to be equated with Canada. Putting that comment aside, I can’t imagine what your angst with Canada is when they have been our allies for so long.

What have we ever done for them? After British Canada emasculated (take away their famlands and they have no means of subsistance) the Quebec population we took in their migrant workers to work at slave wages in the New England mills … oh yes, we also grudgingly took in those who were forcibly expelled from their homeland of Acadia and sent by ship to various states. Did anyone really welcome and help those who didn’t die during the extended trip? Don’t get me started ….
Perhaps you could offer a clue to what is behind your comment?

It’s sad enough to see peoples homes being destroyed by this tragic natural disaster the last thing we need is for selfish immature spoiled americans to come on here and hate a country they know nothing about. I live in Maine and I know that we have many of our firefighters helping and as far as I know help from Boston as well. The worst part is I never knew about the fires till I could smell the smoke in the Lewiston/Auburn area on sunday evening. I had to research it online because I have no cable. So to think that so many others are also unaware of this is sad. I hope we can get control of these fires but nature will do what it does best. If it wasnt meant to happen it wouldn’t. I will pray for the families loosing everything they have, and for the firefighters putting their lives at risk. I hope no more of Canadas land gets destroyed. God Bless
To those out there hating on a country for something they have no control over, go burn with those trees!
