Benigno Aquino is the son of Cory Aquino who was the first female president of the Philippines. As of this moment no final results have been released but according to the Commission on Elections, Mr Aquino had 40.2% of votes with 78.55% counted. Former president Joseph Estrada secured himself in second place with 25.5% of counted votes.
“When I saw the support from the people from Ilocos Norte all the way to Zamboanga on the other end, it made me realise that people must have awakened and that it’s their will that will prevail,” Mr Aquino said.
Mr Estrada is 4.5 million votes behind unstoppable Mr Aquino, making him surely the next president of the Philippines.
The Comelec who is incharge during elections said that around 75% of 50.7 million registered individuals voters have already been counted leaving 7.6 million votes to be counted before finalizing everything.
