New members inducted at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
The 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame introduction ceremony saw shirtless Iggy Pop snarled, “I am the world’s forgotten boy.”
After years of being named finalists to enter the hall of fame, the Stooges could finally get integrated this year at the event that was held at the Waldorf-Astoria on Monday night. The event was telecasted on the Blend Cable channel. The Stooges lead guitarist James Williamson in his acceptance speech said, “After the seventh time we were beginning to think we would have to take pride in not getting in.” And behind Mr. Pop who is currently 62 started to unbutton his white dress shirt to get ready to jump, and twist across the stage to the overwhelming audience. He introduced himself as Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day had once portrayed, ‘the most confrontational singer we will ever see.’ And in his acceptance speech Mr. Pop quite enthusiastically said, “Roll over, Woodstock. We won.”
Along with the Stooges, the Hall’s new additions of members include the Swedish Group ABBA, two English bands, Hollies and Genesis and the reggae songwriter Jimmy Cliff. The songwriters who offered their lyrics to R&B group, girl groups, and Elvis Presley in the 1960s and 1950s were also introduced in the Hall of Fame.
Eric Burdon and Ronnie Spector said, “From the bottom of my heart and with the greatest humility,” Ms. Weil said, “I thought you guys would never ask.” But the younger rappers who were nominated this year will have to wait some time. Rapper LL Cool J and few others were on the list.
This was a congregation baby-boomers could be familiar with. “We started out in the ’60s — now we’re in our 60s,” said Terry Sylvester of the Hollies.
