Katie Spotz little girl who rowed the Atlantic Ocean
2010 Jan 3 the 22 year old Katie Spotz skipped in her rowboat in Dakar Senegal, and began rowing.
10 weeks after Sunday she made it in Georgetown, Guyana, 2,817 miles over the Atlantic Ocean, making her the youngest individual to row an whole ocean alone.
“You’re in a situation that you can’t escape, so you really have to dig deep,” said Katie to NY times.
Katie had all sorts of troubles along the path, including wind and streams so heavy toward the goal that she had to change the path with an additional 400 miles. She also told to reporers that sleeping was a big problem in her small rowbat in big ocean near 20 feet big waves.
Still Katie carried enough sufficient food for 110 days, so meals was not problem. The communication was done through a satellite phone. The other technical devices she carried were gps device, solar panels which helped to power the water cleaner device and her iPod.
Katie did an awesome job out there, she was raised in a sub urban area of Cleveland. She always loved the hard sports. We’re proud of this little girl who made such a big trip.
