The biting recession could not stop the fun loving country Ireland from partying during the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, as hundreds of thousands of Irish revelers were expected parading in the streets of Ireland and abroad.
This is the traditional feast day of Ireland patron’s saint and it is now recognized across the world and the country considers it as National Holiday and Ministers looked forward across the globe popularizing it as a tourism, trade and investment opportunity.

The Prime Minister Brian Cowen is in Washington and he would soon meet US President Barack Obama at the White House to present him the traditional gift of bowl of shamrock, and the Ireland’s three-leafed National Emblem. This is a way to popularize and make the event a more successful event in the across the globe.

It is said that Obama has an ancestor who migrated from small town in Ireland in 1849 and that Cowen is also meeting Vice President Joe Biden who already has Irish ancestry. Moreover Cowen is also expected to meet House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In absence of the prime minister, President Mary McAleese would be reviewing the main parade in Dublin that would involve nearly 3,000 performers and there would be marching bands from Austria, Bulgaria, Spain , France, the US and Britain. Irish pubs in cities around the globe will heave to traditional Gaelic Craic. “Thanks to our global family the link with Ireland has been kept alive over generations and our culture introduced to countless millions throughout the world,” McAleese said in her annual message.
