Hurt Locker Bags Six Awards at the Oscars
Out of the nine categories that Hurt Locker was nominated in, this movie bagged six awards including top awards like Best Picture and Best Director. Obviously, the makers of the movie did not expect to win in the top categories.
On accepting her Best Director awardKathryn Bigelow said, “This is the moment of a lifetime…it is so extraordinary to be in the company of such powerful filmmakers. I really want to thank the Academy. The secret to filmmaking is collaborating and I had a truly extraordinary group of collaborators. I want to dedicate this to all men and women in the military who risk their lives on a daily basis.” She bested other directors including James Cameron, the man she used to be married to.
Producers Mark Boal, Nicholas Shartier, Greg Shapiro and Kathryn Bigelow were truly happy to receive the Best Picture award. Hurt Locker is a movie which stars Jeremy Renner as Sgt. William James who works in the military defusing bombs. Unfortunately for Renner, he did not win in the Best Actor category.
Bigelow, still overwhelmed after receiving her Best Director award, again thanked all the men and women who are in uniforms and everyone who risk their lives out in the field. Boal said that it was truly beyond their dreams, and that they were truly tankful for the honor that the Academy has given them.
