Healthcare Reform Bill, A Victory For The Nation: Barack Obama
And the house has voted. After covering the event for quiet sometime, where we had predicted that the winner would be no one else than the elected President. The US Congress has supported President Barrack Obama, handing him a huge victory by extending health care to millions of uninsured Americans. The official results showed a win by the Democrats with a vote count 219-212, which also clearly detailed that not a single Republican party member supported the movement.
The Healthcare Reform Bill has witnessed some really ugly incidents. Recently angry demonstrators had hurled racial comments at several African American members of Congress and also showering anti-gay insults at Barney Frank, who is Democrat. The Tea Party Movement had launched protests recently with many seen passing bad comments against the Healthcare Bill.
Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the house spoke after the closing the debate at 10:30 p.m:
“We will be joining those who established Social Security, Medicare and now, tonight, health care for all Americans.”
The bill will be fully implemented in four years which will reshape one-sixth of the U.S. economy and the health insurance would be expanded to all U.S. citizens, which includes 8 million uninsured Californians. The bill tabled, will be costing somewhere around $940 Billion, which according to a senior analyst is the price for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the country bears.
All Americans will need to carry insurance or would be imposed a fine of $700. People earning less than $200,000 a year are the ones who will benefit the most while other earnings more than that will need to pay higher amount of taxes. Small businesses will need to forward a 35 percent tax credit in order to cover employees, while those companies who are employing less than 50 people are not to forward this coverage. A fine amounting $2,000 per worker will be imposed on those companies not providing insurance cover to their employees. Extra benefits to the elderly will be greatly cut back to help expand the coverage offered to uninsured citizens.
The Medicaid will be forwarded to lower-income people and expose them to a marketplace where citizens can choose among a wide variety of policies which suit their needs. The bill also passes a resolution which prohibits insurance companies to deny coverages to those who have pre-existing illness.
President Barrack Obama after the successful passing of bill told:
“We proved that we are still a people capable of doing big things. We proved that this government – a government of the people and by the people – still works for the people.”
