Glen Coffee Is leaving San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers’ backup running back Glen Coffee has finally decided to leave the team and NFL for good. Coffee told Mike Singletary that he will quit football at the age of 23 on Sunday.
The player released a statement saying that decision he is making is indeed tough for him and that he is very grateful for everything that the team has done for him. He is wishing his teammates and the coach all the best in their games and career.
It was really an abrupt decision and they’re caught off-guard. Michael Robinson said that he is sad about the news and he feels like losing a brother he found in Coffee.
Coffee is remembered to be competing with rookie Anthony Dixon as 2nd running back player last year.
He was nowhere to be found when he did not attend their second training and just met with Singletary to tell him about his decision.
Coffee averaged 2.7 yards in 83 carries during the 14 games he played last season.
Singetary asked Coffee if he is really sure about his decision and Coffee said that he is very positive about this. Singletary is still trying to change Coffee’s decision. With his experience in playing Football, he is a sure lost for the team.
It could be remembered that prior to Coffee exit, Defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer has already left 49ers due to personal reasons.
Dut to Balmer’s continuous absence, the team is planning of recouping $960,000. Balmer’s overall fee in his five year contract is $8 million.
Alex Smith felt bad about the losses of his teammated but he said that they have to move on and refocus.
Dixon is called to step up and replace the position of Coffee and is near to fill up 49ers starting line.
