First Nuclear Plant In Iran
On Saturday, Iran’s first nuclear power station will be loaded, and it claims that its ambitions are purely peaceful. This doesn’t mean that $1 billion Bushehr plant will start making bombs because Russia will be supplying the enriched uranium for the reactor and take away the spent rods that could be used to make weapons.
Iran said, it does not want nuclear weapons anyway. It is a milestone in Iran’s path to harness technology after decades of delays. This will reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, and will allow exporting more oil and gas.
Mark Fitzpatrick of London’s International institute for Strategic Studies said, this is a big day for Iran which has been waiting for years. It has been postponed so many times that Iranians will be relieved now. This is a victory of Iran over United States which tried to stop nuclear program. “The inauguration of the plant will be a thorn in the side of ill-wishers,” said Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization.
