Earthquake Hits Japan, No Casualties Reported
An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale has hit the eastern coast of Japan. Buildings, bridges, subways were rattled as the tremors were felt almost everywhere. No report of casualties have been reported till yet with very little damage to the structures. The earthquake was witnessed at 5:08 p.m and was strongly felt in Fukushima which is only 210 kms from Tokyo.
Reports were roaming around that a Tsunami Warning has been issued, but government officials denied any such claim and told that there was no danger of tsunami. Although there might be slight changes int the ocean levels and in some areas beaches might witness high tides.
Epicenter being Fukushima, the quake was centered about 80 kms off the eastern coast at a depth of 40 kms. The earthquake was strong enough to sway large buildings in Tokyo and was felt across a stretch of Japan’s two main islands, Honshu and Hokkaido.
The early warning system installed by the developed country alarmed and predicted the earthquake to notify the authorities. A sumo watch was interrupted with the channels conveying the message as a warning to take cover. This system is quiet good which will help the citizens take cover and move to a safe place so that less casualties are adhered.
