Earth Day Events Are Being Scheduled For 2010
Earth Day events are popping up for 2010 in various places. Thailand has their Earth Day festival of “100,000 Monks”. It will be a day of mass meditation, fireworks, and ceremonies. In Toronto, the people there are celebrating by planting 2,000 trees. They will also demonstrate good recycling practices, making bird houses and create crafts.
Chicago is celebrating by having an event for runners and walkers. The Chicago Kayak Club will have their annual clean up day to celebrate. In Barcelona, they have the “Earth Day Catalonia”, which consists of workshops, conferences, dancing and more.
In the United Kingdom, the people will celebrate by meeting in the Millennium Dome and the “Weapons of Sound” band. The dome is located in Greenwich. It is estimated that 500 million people around the world will be celbrating Earth Day in one fashion or another. Africa has an official sponsor of its events in Morocco. Morocco is celebrating by becoming a more “green” place.
The official Earth Day date is April 22. It was begun by a group in the United States called the “hippies” back in the 1960´s and became an official date in 1970. Gaylord Nelson was the United States Senator who brought about the official date.
