The New Wealthiest Person in the World: Carlos Slim
Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim Helu, simply known as Carlos Slim, is now the Worlds’ richest person. He has knocked off from the place the Microsoft Founder, Bill Gates. Warren Buffet who is known as one of the most successful investor in the world has dropped to third place. Carlos Slim was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He is an engineer, businessman and philanthropist. The Mexican centered his investment in telecommunications industry. It was in this industry that Slim was able to raise money by purchasing standby letters of credit which enabled him to obtain loans that provides capital.
Carlos Slim has a net worth of US$53.5 billion. Position was followed by Bill Gates, garnering a net worth of US$53 billion. Warren Buffet got the third place having a net worth of US$47 billion.
“The global economy is recovering and it’s reflected in what you see in the list this year,” Steve Forbes, chief executive of Forbes, told a news conference. “Financial markets have also made an even more impressive comeback from the lows of just about a year ago, particularly in emerging markets.” Forbes added, “Asia is leading the comeback.”
“The global boom that we experienced from the early 80s … which was temporarily derailed in 2007 now looks like it is beginning to get back on track. But Asia and a handful of others are surging, relatively the United States and Western Europe are lagging.” Forbes reiterated.
