Barbara Walters who is known as “personality journalist” and also known for her “scoop” interviews bids farewell to Oscar. She stated that she will be quitting the said television program due to some disappointing reasons that film stars are everywhere and celebrities have become famous for doing nothing.

“After you have done a lap dance with Hugh Jackman it is time to leave,” she stated laughing.

The 80-year-old TV personality was first seen in a popular TV morning news program. She has also hosted morning television shows the “Today” and “The View”, the television magazine “20/20”, and the co-anchor of the ABC Evening News, also a correspondent on ABC World News. Walters became known for getting celebrities to open up and often tear up on camera in her TV shows. But nowadays, as the doyenne of celebrity interviewers stated, the interviews have become less special and many stars are overexposed.

It’s not movie stars that are celebrities any more. Now, it’s also everybody who has a reality show. You are a celebrity overnight, you are a celebrity for doing nothing, you are a celebrity for shopping,” she stated.

“Too often the celebrity is a celebrity because he or she just came out of rehab, otherwise they are not interesting. I didn’t want to do that.”

“I don’t find it harder to interview celebrities now,” Walters said. “I find it harder to interview a celebrity who hasn’t been all over the place. And now everybody’s a celebrity if that’s the word you’re using.”

“I don’t think it was better in the past, it is just the way it is now,” she said, adding later she did not feel responsible for any increased focus on celebrities.

“I wish I had that kind of power,” she joked. “What I did do was meet and get to know the stars as they really were, in depth.”
