Another Bow From President Barack Obama For Presidents Of Other Countries
The folks at yahoo have captured what appears to be yet another bow by the President of the United States to a foreign President. This time it appears to be the Premier of the Communist Leader of China, Hu Jintao. The summit for Nuclear Security began with the leaders meeting, shaking hands, and apparently a bow from Barack Obama. This Nuclear Summit was called by President Barack Obama for forty seven countries. Turkey and Egypt have put forth the issue of the assumed nuclear power of Israel amongst them. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has elected not to attend the Nuclear Summit.
This event comes on the news of the popularity of the American President slipping a few notches. Former bows by the American President were to the Saudi King Abdullah and to the Japanese Emperor Akihito. The bow to the Saudi King last year ( 2009 ) was one that doubled the United States leader to a nearly ninety degree angle. The bow to the Japanese leader was in the same style.
These bows are a departure from two centuries of protocol for Presidents from the United States in which no President has bowed to royalty of other nations.

What is wrong with this guy???? For the first time in my adult life I am ashamed of my president.
BHO is such an asshole!!!!!!!!1
Its like the heart breaking scene from Superman II where the president is forced to kneel before the alien invader Zod. Zod was a real tough dude though, not like this old guy.
And how come the foreign leaders never bow back?
If Mr. Jintao returned the bow, this would have been a positive display of mutual respect. Because he did not, this becomes a disturbing show of one-sided deference inappropriate for our President in the face of a foreign leader.
This is now the FIFTH TIME our President has bowed to a foreign leader and the foreign leader did NOT bow back.
Had Mr. Jintao returned the bow, this would have been a positive display of mutual respect. Because he did not, this becomes a disturbing show of one-sided deference inappropriate for our President in the face of a foreign leader.
This loser continues to embarrass himself in front of the world.
Must be a Muslim thing.
This is sickening. He has been violating his Constitutional oath, pushing unconstitutional legislation, taking over whole industries and socializing medicine, and has been publicly bowing to other nations. Bowing to communist China takes the cake. Impeach him. Repeal the unconstitutional and therefore illegal laws, and let us work on rebuilding the United States of America!
“There we go, Jintao, lemmie suck on that peepee some more”
Bowing, groveling punk prostrates himself in front of our rivals and enemies and craps on our allies and friends.
bowing is not the issue here. it is how far you bow. in oriental custom the one that bows the lowest is more subserviant to the other. in this case the action speaks louder than words.
Has this clown even been briefed on what it means to bow to an Asian culture with his head down and eyes averted? Even the most sheltered American seems to understand it indicates a subservient demeanor!
Apparently he’s completely clueless that in dealing with these cultures he CANNOT be seen as weak and subservient, his liberal western mindset simply cannot grasp the fact that these cultures respect strength and the willingness to use it.
We as Americans should take pride in our country and what we’ve accomplished, no apologies are necessary!
He only bows to those dictators that he has been in awe of. He is humbled by the prospects of becoming another member in their club of evil and oppression. No bows to the leader of Israel and other more democratic countries, just to the tyrants.
Face it, this moron was raised by Communists, his best friends are terrorists, his wife is ashamed of America, what else can anyone expect from this BIG mistake by the majority of the American voters.
At least he’s bowing for once to the person he owes fealty to.

You can’t flip out when the president bows to foreign dignitaries, as appropriate for their culture, when you were silent when the presidents did the same. Bush. Nixon. Ike. You didn’t even make a peep when Bush held hands and kissed leaders of countries that are not on “kissing terms” with the US.

This man boy president in training is a Socialist/Marxist and wants so badly to be seen in favor of tyrants. Obama aspires to be one if he has enough time to institute his radical and American changing ideology. In his mind there is only two classes… the elite and everyone else. His ideology can not have an educated middle class. If we did not have the internet today, Obama would have already changed America and he would be on his way to dictator.
As an example, Obama and the Progressives are not worried about the environment. It is a tool to ensure our vast natural resources are not used for Capitalism and the free market. They want to own them when they finally rule.
Seems that the wigger has it back wards, supposed to bow to FRIENDS and KICK ASS to our enemies.
Isn’t this what someone would have been taught who growing up overseas who isn’t American???
This one should get me labeled something-phobic. Is Sinophobic in the PC handbook?
Confucious say “Always bow to banker.”

[For a light hearted take on our present peril]
Here kitty, kitty, kitty
this president is an idiot and he is embarising the whole country.the whole world is laughing at us…
Because the photo links posted by Mr. Cinema bring up still shots and not videos, it is not possible to DEFINITIVELY determine that Eisenhower, Nixon, and Bush 43 were bowing in deferential greeting to DeGaulle, Hirohito, and the Saudi King, respectively. Nixon looks like he is simply leaning towards and downward to better hear what the much shorter Hirohito is saying. Bush 43 looks like he is in the process of receiving a medal or necklace from the
Saudi King and is trying to make it easier for the older man to place it over his (Bush’s) head. In the pictures where Bush is holding hands and exchanging standup kisses with the Saudi King, he is expressing PEER friendship, not subservience. It would have been subservient if the King had received a kiss on the hand from Bush, or if Bush had walked behind the King instead of side-by-side and hand-to-hand. Eisenhower was in the process of receiving the Civitan International award from DeGaulle, not bowing in deference. DeGaulle can be seen holding the medal in his left hand. There is a video clip out there showing Nixon apparently bowing briefly towards Mao. However, it occurs AFTER Nixon had already greeted Mao with prolonged STANDUP & eye-to-eye handshakes. It is completely possible that Nixon was simply affirming something Mao had said in conversation. Furthermore, Nixon’s “bow” looked rather shallow and lowered his head to the same level as Mao’s head…not below it.
I just don’t understand the hissy fit going around. Bowing is a sign of respect. Just like a handshake. Gee, might as well go after all the corporations that make international deals and bow to the Japanese and Chinese when they have meetings as well too. Is there really nothing else going on in the world that you have concern with something so insignificant. It’s not like he’s kneeling or walking on all fours. Conservatives, get over yourselves and start learning how to greet people in other cultures.
It seems people are genuinely upset by this for a few reasons, Mr Cinema.
Perhaps readers can settle on some basic facts to begin with:
1. The President’s bowing actually breaks protocol. Prior protocol has been that American dignitaries shake hands & occasionally offer a very slight bow.
- The State Department & New York Times also agree according to the June 14, 1994 Times article “The President’s Inclination: No, It Wasn’t a Bow-Bow”
2. The video shows Mr. Jintao approaching President Obama with his arm extended for a handshake. Our President breaks protocol again by bowing & shaking simultaneously, abnormal in Eastern cultures.
Even so, I think most would agree on the importance of appreciating and understanding foreign cultures, especially when operating on the international stage. Showing respect to others is generally a positive thing.
In reality, the sense of frustration seems to center upon two separate points:
1. For the most part, American Presidents bow down to no one. That reasoning stems in part from the Revolutionary War and the tradition mentioned in point #1 above (which even extends to the practice of not dipping the American flag during Olympic entrance ceremonies).
2. The foreign leaders President Obama bows to NEVER return the bow. Most moderate, hard-working voters would probably have an easier time accepting this if the foreign leader President Obama bowed to returned the bow in a positive display of mutual respect (or vice-versa). Because they don’t, it becomes a disturbing visual of one-sided deference inappropriate for our President in the face of a foreign leader.
To think about it a little differently… if you extended your hand to another person for a handshake, they simply looked at it and ignored you, would that rub you the wrong way? Or if someone extended their hand to you for a handshake, would you simply ignore it and leave them hanging? Most folks would probably shake the outstretched hand, because failure to do so would convey extreme disrespect.
So, even if we grant the point that these bows may be a misguided attempt to show respect for foreign cultures, it still begs the question: Why don’t they bow back???? Or even bow first once in a while?
I sincerely hope President Obama proves himself to be a great leader matching the greatness of this nation.
May he be successful in his endeavors, for all our sakes.
And may he no longer bow to foreign leaders that do not bow back in mutual respect, literally or figuratively.
Its about time America shows some humility for the shit its made people put up with. What are you faggots whining about? (no slander at homosexuals intended)
to those saying you hope he matches the greatness of your nation, lol you have no idea do you? hes already gone far faaaaar past your nations ‘greatness’ in fact hes taken the first exit to the long road of redemption that your country so badly needs to take. the vast majority of the world hates your country, and the rest suck up to you because the the frightening amount of firepower you brain damaged little weevils posses.
ask yourself. Is it REALLY such a bad thing that obama is showing some humility and respect to the rest of the world? the rest of the world’s leaders should follow suit. Mutual respect leads to tolerance and acceptance.
Did he bow? Did The Waltons take too long to say good night? Our whole beloved Country is subject of legit ridicule due to this idiot’s on the job training, lack of understanding and tyranny against The People
The day after President Obama bowed to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in November of 2009, Ralph Nader (not exactly a staunch Republican) published a piece titled “Weak Kneed in China”.
The piece begins: “There was something both sad and strange about President Obama’s weak presence in China last week.”
Further down it continues, “This first trip to China by Mr. Obama was a lost opportunity in three ways that cannot be excused, no matter the absence of proactive status and power.”

Perhaps seeing our President bow before another foreign official just a few months later shouldn’t evoke another sense of surprise, but it still does.
And, once again, the foreign official he bowed to did NOT return the bow. Had Mr. Jintao returned the bow, this would have been a positive display of mutual respect. Because he did not, this becomes a disturbing show of one-sided deference inappropriate for our President in the face of a foreign leader.
I sincerely wish that the foreign officials our nation’s leader bowed to had at least returned the same courtesy & respect.
Fozz,
I hate breaking this to you, but the State Department and NY Times disagree with you. There are reasons why the State Department protocols prohibiting things like bowing have been in place for over 230 years. You might want to read the June 19, 1994 Times article (“The President’s Inclination: No, It Wasn’t a Bow-Bow”) that states:
“It wasn’t a bow, exactly. But Mr. Clinton came close. He inclined his head and shoulders forward, he pressed his hands together. It lasted no longer than a snapshot, but the image on the South Lawn was indelible: an obsequent President, and the Emperor of Japan.
But the ‘thou need not bow’ commandment from the State Department’s protocol office maintained a constancy of more than 200 years. Administration officials scurried to insist that the eager-to-please President had not really done the unthinkable.
‘It was not a bow-bow, if you know what I mean,’ said Ambassador Molly Raiser, the chief of protocol.”
@derek, its not a muslim thing. muslim either shake hands or hugs. no bowing.
Dear Hill Billy’s,
Please kill yourselves. You were born from ignorant parents who put venom in your veins. You cannot be reformed; you can only be killed off. Like the venom Hitler brew your parents are to blame. A black man is president… SO WHAT… Get over it!!!
