Anamika Veeramani Brings Pride To Ohio

14 year old girl Anamika Veeramani, from Cleveland, Ohio brings pride to the state by winning the championship of National Spelling Bee. Anamika is an Indian American girl who won this 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee championship. She knocked off 272 other participants from all over the country.

Winning word of Anamika was “stromuhr” which she spelled correctly, the amazing thing is, this is the word which is not used regularly in day today life. This is a medical term which means a rheometer designed to measure the speed of blood flow through an artery. Anamika is in 8th grade, when she was asked about her ambition, she said, she wants to become a cardiovascular surgeon.

The contest was held in Washington’s Grand Hyatt Hotel. Anamika spelled all the words correctly to reach the finals and she made it there also. Her parents were very happy about it and she won $40,000 cash prize and a title of Spelling Bee. This is the third time when an Indian American teen won this championship.
