$900 Million Loan From World Bank to Pakistan

After the severe flood disaster in Pakistan, United Nations has forecasted that people may still die from cholera and other diseases even if the rain stops. About 20 million people have been affected by the disaster and they did not get the emergency aid yet. They are still living in dirty places with no clean water, food or proper shelter.

So far, UN has raised only a third of $460 million which is way too less. The World Bank in a statement said, it is planning to relocate the cash which is not spent to buy items needed for rapid reconstruction like fuel, steel and cement as well as it has been planning to release fresh funds.

World Bank will also cooperate with government to make sure the disaster fund is not misused. “We are reprioritizing to make the funds immediately available,” said Mariam Altaf, a spokesman for the World Bank. Around 1600 people have died and more than one million are left homeless due to floods. Antivenom kits are also provided to treat snake bites as humans and wildlife creatures are competing for high ground.
