7 Iraqi Soldiers Died as Suicide Bombers attack during Early Elections
Just during the first phase of early elections in the Iraq capital, Baghdad, suicide bombers struck at two polling stations killing 7 Iraqi paramilitary troops on Thursday as the voters gathered to cast their ballots in the general election held in the country after much turmoil.
Besides the deceased nearly 25 people were injured in the attack of twin blasts and the violence came in spite of strict security measures taken for the polling stations. The voting has been considered underway who were not able to get to the polling stations due to the blast on Sunday. It will include the soldiers, health professionals and prisoners.
It is reported that officials had warned insurgents about the increasing attack to attempt and disrupt the vote during the second phase of parliamentary election since Saddam Hussein was overthrown in 2003. Just before these twin blasts, there were three suicide bombing that blew up in Baquba in the Northeast Capital Iraq killing nearly 31 people which had been the deadliest attacks in weeks.
The election polling on Thursday has been appreciated as a way to find peace and prosperity in already shattered and devastated country where dictatorship rules for so many years and now the bombings, bullets, military personnel and terrorists are creating strife. Prime Minister Nuri-Al-Maliki told tribal leaders in Baghdad that they have tried a lot to recover the unity, pride, sovereignty and security of the country and won’t allow these divisive forces to create havoc. He urged to people to fight and defy this attack with unity and co-operation.
Meanwhile the process of troops’ withdrawal is on the way and Pentagon declared that such security deterioration would only hamper the plan of withdrawing the forces from Iraq and hand over power to the locals by the end of the next year.
