7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Solomon Islands, No Tsunami Alert
Breaking News:
A massive earthquake just hit the Solomon Islands in the Western Pacific measuring at 7.1 magnitude on the Richter Scale. The US Geological Survey reported about the earth’s movement and warnings with emergency sirens were triggered. No tsunami alert neither any loss to citizens was reported, at the time of filing of this report.
According to analysts, the quake struck at a depth of 52 kilometres or 32 miles while the epicentre being 97 Kilometres Southwest of Kira Kira on Makira Island. Panic did arise as well as tourists and citizens were warned of damage to life and property.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported:
“Earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within 100 kilometres of the earthquake epicentre. Authorities in the region of the epicentre should be aware of this possibility and take action.”
Even though, no immediate tsunami warning was issued, the authorities did ask the locals to take precautionary steps. The Solomon Islands regularly report of earthquakes but not even one of them should be treated in a light mood as God knows well, when might destruction occur.
While no casualty was reported, some media channels reported that almost 1000 people were left homeless.
