103 People Killed in Flash Floods in Kashmir, India
Unexpected flash floods wiped off houses and killed at least 103 people in Indian held Kashmir’s mountainous region Ladakh on Friday. And more than 350 people were injured. Troops tried to pull survivors from knee deep mud in tourist destination of Himalayas. Airport in Leh, which is the main town of Ladakh was completely damaged and all the means of communications were cut.
According to the Police chief, rescue efforts are going on constantly. Many people have been left homeless but officials were not sure how many were left homeless. But around 2000 people were housed in government run shelters. “Mud and water is everywhere,” said Kashmiri businessman Kausar Makhdoomi, who was on holiday in Leh.
All the telecommunication towers have either fallen or damaged completely, main highway was closed due to bad weather. This was completely unexpected and there were no warnings from weather departments. This came all of a sudden and destroyed everything.
